South Valley University (SVU) covers a large area in Upper Egypt with its two branches in Qena and Red Sea Governorates .The main campus is located in Qena city is 600 km away from south Cairo.The university includes a total of (19) faculties and two institutes. As a branch of Assiut University,the study began at SVU on October 1970.According to a presidential decree, the university became independent on January 2,1995.
SVU plays a big role in serving the community in Upper Egypt. It is a vibrant and research institution in which students can enroll. It attracts students not only from Egypt ,but also from other countries.It’s more than 1793 faculty members have been trained in the best international educational institutions and they brought global perspectives that enhance the educational environment at the university.A related point to consider is that 56476 students have enrolled in the academic year 2020-2021.
South Valley University (SVU) seeks to provide education according to the community needs, in addition to scientific researches through providing a good educational atmosphere for preparing proficient graduates according to regional and international criteria. Besides, SVU supports scientific research and effective partnership that meet the aspiration of the South Valley community.
It has a third campus in the coastal city of Hurghada, just south of where the Gulf of Suez meets the Red Sea. Hurghada is home to the Faculty of Education. SVU also runs the Aswan Power Electronic Applications Research Centre in the city of Aswan, where the Nile flows into Lake Nasser.
SVU has placed strongly among similar universities in the country in national rankings. Tuition fees are low for domestic and international students alike. More than a quarter of its students are postgraduates.
Other faculties include Arts, Law, Science, Special Education, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Engineering, Commerce, Hotels and Tourism, Agriculture and Physical Education.
SVU previously owned a campus in the city of Sohag further upstream, but this became a separate institution, Sohag University, in 2006. SVU’s Faculties of Education, Engineering, Arts, Science and Social Work had a presence here, as did the Higher Institute of Energy.The Aswan Power Electronics Applications Research Center is a research center of this university.
