The presidential decree no. 200 for 2013 was issued to establish the faculty of medicine, Aswan University. The study began in the academic year 2013/2014. The faculty is striving for being in line with the developments in sciences and medical techniques as well as promoting the services provided by the university hospitals to Aswan and the surrounding cities. The faculty of medicine is continuously developing its educational systems to be in accordance with the student’s level in bachelor or postgraduate stages in a way that ensures implementing the quality standards.
Aswan University Hospital is the only hospital that receives patients from all parts of the governorate as well as the neighboring governorates. After being a university hospital, the clinical departments increased from 8 to 24 in all the medical specialties. Now, instead of referring patients to Assiut or Cairo, treatment became available in Aswan.
